Design?
Before we talk about process, I'd like to talk about design. What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about design? For me...
Design is about teamwork
I think no design can be done alone. We’re always in the team. If I look back my own career, there is no product, no design I could have produced or shipped without the help of others. Any great product doesn't exist in isolation.
Design is discipline
Design is a muscle that needs to be infused throughout organizations. We’re all designers. You’re a designer whether you choose to be or not. Your non designed decisions are themselves designed decisions. Even if you are a CFO, you’re making decisions that influence customer services and user experience.
Design is smart business
Involve users in a smart way that prototypes, iterates, tries, fails, gets feedback. And then go to the market. That’s just smart business for me. Design is a wonderful way to de-risk market.
Process
I use a Design Thinking methodology that provides a solution-based approach to solving problems. It’s tremendously useful in tackling complex problems by understanding the user needs involved, by re-framing the problem in human-centric ways, by creating many ideas in brainstorming sessions, and by adopting a hands-on approach in prototyping and testing.
